Artist Statement

I explore natural abilities in movement and drawing by capturing figurative forms and emotions that are experienced through dance movement and the body. My practice is a performance and reflection of myself – I work from reflections in the mirror and photographs as well as using other people as models. Other visual inspirations for my work incorporate the use of fashion and locations; including historical architecture and pattern and texture to convey a story. I work with printmaking, collograph, drypoint, softground etching and monotype combining photography, collaging and painting within these processes.

I pursue a variety of printmaking techniques and mixed-media approaches and explore possibilities with collographs, etchings and monoprints to create many textures. I combine these printmaking mediums with photographic imagery, collage and painting. As a fine artist I establish work in various areas; illustrating fashion, exhibiting personal work, selling prints and publishing work as well as undertaking commissions. I believe in my own self-expression without it being hindered or moulded by commercialism.

As a balance to my own art practice I enjoy working and interacting with people teaching art and running art workshops for both children and adults. I have previously worked with adult education centres, colleges and art galleries and have recently purchased a portable print-press to deliver community workshops. I have enhanced these skills by undertaking a postgraduate certificate in education part-time. I believe that i have an ability and patience as well as an understanding to help and develop people to unleash their individual creativity.
